The connection between an I-beam and a tubular column filled with concrete, both built with fillet welding, is a type of connection that is being qualified to be included in the design codes in Colombia. To qualify this connection, an experimental campaign is being developed to determine the mechanical behavior of these elements under cyclic loads. The expected experimental results are failure mechanisms in the structural elements and in their connection, evolution of plastic deformation, dissipation energy and ultimate strength values. The results of this experimental campaign are an indispensable input for the calibration of numerical models.
